A Short History of Vaillancourt Folk Art
Nestled in
the beautiful village of Manchaug near Sutton, Massachusetts, Vaillancourt
folk Art captures the magic of Christmas throughout the year.
In this 19th century New England Textile Mill, collectible
chalkware Santas and Father Christmas are created in limited
editions, through Gary and Judi Vaillancourt's special vision.
Each chalkware figurine portrays a distinctive character
that recalls a rich heritage of holidays gone by, captured in
a collectible piece whose value will last for generations. Chalkware,
once known as "Poor Mans Staffordshire", has risen
to new heights in the realm of collectible American Folk Art.
Judi Vaillancourt, the designer behind Vaillancourt Folk Art,
has adapted the centuries old craft to create lifelike
figurines, cast from antique chocolate and ice cream moulds.
Chocolate
molds form the late 19th and early 20th centuries were
predominantly made in Europe by master craftsmen.
Although
late 19th century Germany was populated by a vast array of
talented artisans, the acknowledged master molder was Anton
Reiche. Reiche employed many of the finest mould makers in his
own factory where, under his supervision, they produced the
moulds that inspire the creative genius of Judi Vaillancourt.
